What to do when you can't face creating content for your business

Transcript:

Welcome, it's Jo Gifford here, and welcome to a super quick lunchtime live where I thought I would share some thoughts around what to do when you can't face the creating content of your business.

There's so many reasons why either that might be the case; first of all, perhaps you're actually getting on with the job in hand and you're serving clients, and you're out there doing your thing and actually projects are taking up your time = which is is the right way round, right?

I mean, we're here to serve clients so perhaps that's going on; or maybe you just can't sort get into that zone of creating content. (I know certainly I go through cycles of feeling super prolific and able to share, and cycles when I'm less so - it's totally normal to do that).

Maybe something else is going on perhaps; maybe something in your personal life or you know, life gets really busy, right?

But as a business owner, if you want to create content to find your peeps to add value to them and all that good stuff, then there's some strategies that we have to deal with those times when you just can't face creating it yourself.

If you are here on the live or you're watching afterwards say hi so that I know that you're here, it's great to have you guys on.

First of all, we've got to think about the fact that it's not all about you, which is the good news, right?

So your business is not all about you, happily, right?
It's about the clients that you're serving and it's about the results that you get for them.

So that's where, if you can't face creating new stuff or you can't face thinking about speaking about yourself, make it not about you. Make it about the results that you got for your clients.

This is where you can have some super easy wins and some low hanging fruit by screen shotting some testimonials, or sharing some recent things that clients have said about you.

That's a super low hanging fruit way to share some content and to create it without having to have the energy to create it all yourself.

It doesn't have to be all singing, all dancing, stage time, showtime; you can simply screenshot some stuff and share what clients have said, because to my mind it's more important to hear the results that you've got your clients than it is to be hearing all about you.

I'd love to hear what you guys think about that.

Next up: repurposing is your friend here.

So, when you are going through those times of either you're really busy with projects or life is doing a life thing on you, then this is where you can repurpose stuff that you have already done.

This is where you can repurpose perhaps a blog post, and you can shorten that up in individual images for social media.

Or perhaps you've created a Facebook live, you can repurpose that.
You can have it transcribed, you can use it as a blog post, you can revise it.

So there are ways to use stuff that you've already done.

Even if you can't face either repurposing stuff, you can re-share what you've done because if it still has value, you don't have to be doing new stuff all the time. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Okay, next up it's really good to practise creating content by doing it often.

But guys, there is like, there's no point if you're churning out stuff but you aren't gaining insights from it and gaining data and seeing what works, what doesn't work and putting some kinds of plan around it.

So my advice here is to practise creating it.

When you feel like you're in that zone, when you feel like you can expend the energy to do it; this is a really good discipline and practise as well.

So there are times when you know that you can't and you've got to focus on other stuff.
That's fine.

Because that’s where you can repurpose, and that's where you can use low hanging fruit ideas by sharing, you know, sort of social proof stuff of your client testimonials, all that kind of stuff.

When you get into the habit of creating content, often it becomes easier.

It becomes easier to know what to talk about, to know what your people have to hear about, to feel more confident in stuff you share.

But I would say also to really get into the practise of working out what's working for you, what your peeps love to hear, what, what did you feel comfortable sharing?

What got lots of views and likes and posts and thumbs up and all that kind of stuff.

What got the most reactions?

So yeah, check in on a weekly basis.

Every time you are creating or sharing content and work out what is working and starting to build your own strategy around that.

I think often we get stuck with, “But I haven't got the strategy so I can't post the content that I'm posting so I'm too shy about it, so I can't create the strategy.”

In my mind. it works best to do both at once.

Start creating and plan around it and to really work with that data and to and to review all the time what's working for you, what isn't working and where you can change it up.

So, let's recap:
- It's not all about you. You can share your clients stuff, and screenshots and testimonials.
Make some quotes of testimonials or that sort of stuff - repurposing is your friend. (and those of you who know my work know, I'm a big fan of repurposing).

- Try to get yourself back in the groove, start creating content, but review it and build a strategy around it and stop trying to put all that pressure on yourself to do new stuff all the time.

- If you're starting to build up a bank of content of ideas, then you can really use that stuff.
You can even go back to a really old blog posts and I bet you you'll have some new insights into new ways to make that even. And that's a really quick win.

Alright. I'd love to hear what was useful for you. If anything, from my quick live.

Thanks to you guys for joining me on the other live or later on and have an awesome day. Bye.
